Retinal Detachment and  Diagnosis

Growing up, when it came to my vision, I had always been told by my eye dcotors that I was very nearsighted or highly myopic but as I grew older, I felt like something was off. My vision issues seemed more extreme than most people I knew with high myopia. In early 2017 a retinal detachment in my left eye forced a deeper look into my vision issues. What I was experiencing wasn't just high myopia, it was pathological myopia also known as degenerative myopia.

What is Pathological Myopia?

Pathological myopia is a type of high myopia that goes beyond blurry vision. It's extreme nearsightedness accompanied with degenerative changes to the back of the eye that could potentially lead vision loss.

Educating Myself and Raising Awareness

This revelation sparked a need in me to dive into research to learn about the degenerative changes affecting my eyes and other potential vision health issues. Now, I not only want to understand my own condition better, but also share my experiences and raise awareness.

This blog serves as a platform for my ongoing journey – learning more about pathological myopia, exploring broader vision health topics, and emphasizing the importance of eye care.
